Traffic is the heart of your blogging business; more traffic means more publicity for your blog, more subscribers to your email list, and a greater potential for your visitors to become customers. While page views are certainly important, how do you get your visitors to stay on your blog longer? Stick around; these tips will help you maximize your earning potential with your blog by offering your readers value. Capture your reader’s attention, making them want to read beyond the page they land on.
1 I Headlines (Blog Titles) That Match Your Content
So you caught the attention of your audience with a great headline, but your content does not deliver your headline promises. Writing headlines that do not align with your content will be a turnoff. Remember, you do not just want visitors to come to your site; you also want them to be engaged. This is possible by writing catchy headlines and following up with content that delivers. This takes us to the next tip.
2 I Offer Quality Content
A great tip that will keep visitors on your blog longer is by providing quality content to your readers. The number one way of doing this is by offering your readers content that solves pain points or teaches about a specific topic like blogging or email marketing. For example, offering a post on setting up their own blog or setting up an email opt-in.
3 I Use Subheadings
When readers land on our blog, they are usually interested in one thing, and that’s to find the answers to their problems. Subheadings will help visitors to navigate your content; they are signs telling your readers where to find the answers they are looking for. Additionally, subheading breaks your content up into bite-size portions making it easier to consume.
4 I Internal Links
A great way to keep your readers engaged is by having more great content on display for your visitors to see. Utilize the space on your blog, whether that’s your sidebar and or footer, to preview related blog posts that visitors may be interested in reading. Here is an example of posts displayed in my blog footer.
If this has not yet been configured on your blog, use the WordPress Popular Post Plugin to showcase your posts with the highest views. Install the WordPress Popular Plugin to your blog from the WordPress repository. Then from the WordPress dashboard, select Appearance> Widget. Then, you select the WordPress Popular Posts widget option and move it across to the location you want your popular posts to be displayed, whether that’s your sidebar or footer.
5 I Call- To- Action
At the end of every blog post, you should include a CTA. By giving your readers a CTA, you can lengthen the time they spend on your blog. Ask them to signup for your weekly newsletter, leave a comment about the type of content they want you to write about, and or subscribe to your youtube channel.
6 I Use Pictures and Videos
Visual elements of any kind, be it pictures, infographics, or videos, will certainly score you more points with your audience. Your visitors will most likely prefer pictures and videos over text. Not only are they visually pleasing, but they also help to clarify the message you are trying to communicate with your readers. Be sure to compress large images on your blog. To do this, consider using WordPress plugins like EWWW Image Optimizer or Smush.
If you are looking for stock images for your blog, consider Unsplash or Canva. Canva is a complete graphic platform with all you’ll need to make your blog pop in one location. Try Canva Pro 30 day trial for free, and check out all the premium features.
7 I Navigation
I cannot emphasize how important navigation is; a frustrated visitor will immediately leave your blog if your content is not where you said it would be. If your visitors come to your site for answers, a pleasant user experience will keep them coming back. You can make navigation easy by including a menu button on your home page. Expandable menus, when clicked, will show all the categories under which your content is listed, making it a lot easier for your site to be explored.
It’s not enough to have the traffic coming to your blog; you need visitors to engage with your content—questions, comments, newsletter signup, or purchases. That’s why it’s important to deliver great life-changing content, and once your readers see you as an authority figure or find value in your content. Then they will stay awhile on your blog.
